Low gas pressure: No compressors allowed

Demand for gas has risen from 20 million cubic feet to 30 million cubic feet in winters, SNGPL official

SARGODHA: The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines (SNGPL) Sargodha Regional Office has launched a crackdown against gas consumers who have installed compressors to increase gas pressure.

SNGPL Sargodha Regional Manager Alla-ul-Din Khan said on Thursday that the operation had been launched against consumers who had deprived neighbouring houses from their fair share of gas by drawing an additional volume of gas through compressors.

He said gas pressure had been low because the demand for gas had risen from 20 million cubic feet to 30 million cubic feet in winters.

“Shockingly though, the pressure has been lower in various areas because of the illegal usage of gas compressors,” he said.

SNGPL staff had conducted several raids and found domestic consumers using compressors and registered FIRs against them with police stations. He said that compressors were dangerous because they did not stabilise gas pressure.

Compressors are not designed to be compatible with high pressures and there is a risk of accidents if they are used when gas pressure is high, he said.
