Unhealthy situation: Rs56 annual budget for each patient

The standing committee went over the performance of the TESCO and expressed satisfaction

PESHAWAR: In Fata, health care is in urgent need of a revamp after military operations and displacements, however, the government has kept the budget for each patient at a mere Rs56. According to a handout, a briefing was held at the FATA Secretariat in the provincial capital on Wednesday where a SAFRON standing committee reviewed health and education sectors. FATA Social Secretary Captain (retd) Waqarul Hassan said the FATA Secretariat was using the budget to improve the standards of hospitals and equip facilities with modern equipment. He also said the revamp of schools would be based on enrolments and teachers would be awarded for good performance. The standing committee went over the performance of the Tribal Electric Supply Company (Tesco) and expressed satisfaction. However, officials were told to ensure Tesco performance was standardised. Hassan vowed to resolve the issues of tribespeople and upgrade infrastructure. Senator Sitara Ayaz appreciated the efforts of political leaders in improving conditions in Fata. Senators Taj Muhammad Afridi and Haji Momin Afridi were in attendance.
