Workplace Safety: 8 affected by gas leak at steel factory

LAHORE: At least eight people were affected by a gas leak at a factory in Badami Bagh area early on Monday morning. They were moved to a nearby hospital by a Rescue team called to the scene by some of the workers trapped in Arfan Steels. Police said a leak in the boiler at Arfan Steels had led to the accident. They said an FIR had been registered against the factory owner, Malik Iqbal. A team formed to probe the incident had collected forensic evidence and recorded statements of the witnesses. Monday’s incident is the second of the kind in the area. At least 100 workers affected in an ammonia gas leakage at a cold storage unit in the area on November 24. Residents of neighbourhoods along Khokhar Road complain about mushroom growth of factories without any regulation of safety and environment standards.
