Lahore Metro Bus service to be extended to Rachna Town

CM directs early completion of GT Road Expressway project

The government has decided to extend the metro bus route from Shahdara to Rachna Town.


The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday.

“The extension of Metro Bus route by five kilometres will benefit a large number of people,” the chief minister said.

He said that the government wanted to provide modern infrastructure facilities to the people. “It is essential for strengthening economy and promoting trade activities. The government is spending billions of rupees for the improvement of infrastructure. Timely and quality completion of infrastructure development projects for facilitating the masses is a policy of the government. Every penny of public money is being spent honestly on infrastructure development projects,” he said.



Shahbaz Sharif directed that the project should be completed within stipulated period. “There will be substantial improvement in the flow of traffic with the completion of GT Road Expressway project. Steps should be taken for the completion of the project within time,” he said.


Frontier Works Organisation Director General Maj Gen Muhammad Afzal, the Planning and Development Board chairman, the finance secretary, the Lahore division commissioner and the Lahore Development Authority director general attended the meeting.

He informed the chief minister about the efforts made by his Zindgi Trust for the provision of education to children.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that education was the key to success. “The aim of progress and prosperity of the country can be realised only through promotion of education. The government has adopted a solid strategy for the development of education sector on solid foundations and a comprehensive reforms programme is being implemented in the education sector. The government has adopted effective strategy for promoting education,” he said.

The chief minister said that Daanish Schools had been set up for the provision of free education to the children of poor families in far-flung and backward areas. “Daanish Schools are playing an important role in discouraging the trend of extremism. Modern education is being imparted to students of these schools with the help of smart boards. The Punjab Education Endowment Fund is another revolutionary step for the promotion of education,” he said. The chief minister said that the education of 100,000 talented students was being provided through the fund. “Some of them are studying at prestigious education institutions. An important feature of this educational fund is that besides the Punjab, talented and deserving students of Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and other provinces are also benefiting from it. This has promoted national solidarity. The Punjab government has laid the foundation of a revolution in the education sector through solid measures for promotion of education,” he said.

Roy appreciated the measures taken by the chief minister for the promotion of education.
