ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday obtained a three-day physical remand of former officials of the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) in a corruption case.

The agency had arrested OGDCL’s former procurement officials --- Muhammad Riaz, Roh Ullah, Hafiz Muhammad Aslam, Muhammad Yousaf, Ashraf Ali and Munawar Ali Abbasi for their alleged involvement in the Sanjhoro Oil Field scam.

FIA, on Saturday, produced them before the court of Senior Civil Judge Abdul Ghafoor Kakar and obtained their three-day physical remand. The FIA stated that the contract of the project was awarded to M/S AKS &FC in a non-transparent manner and the officials allegedly misused their powers while awarding the contract.

According to the FIA, the project, initiated by the previous government, was started in district Sanghar, Sindh, as a joint venture of OGDCL, the Ocean Pakistan Limited and the Government Holdings (pvt) Limited having shares of 62.5 per cent, 15 per cent and 22.5 per cent respectively.

Former adviser to prime minister on petroleum and natural resources Dr Asim Hussain had inaugurated the project.
