PESHAWAR:

IGP Nasir Khan Durrani has recommended the name of slain security guard Pervez Khan to the provincial government for the highest of national gallantry award.

Pervez intercepted the suicide bomber behind the terrorist attack on the NADRA office in Mardan on Tuesday, preventing the death of many innocents. He grappled with the assailant in front of the main gate of the building but unfortunately the attacker blew himself up, resulting in the death of at least 26 individuals.

Many say if the suicide bomber had been successful in gaining access to the main premises where a large number of people had been present, the loss would have been of a far greater magnitude.

The IGP in his letter to Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said, “Although security guard Pervez sacrificed his life, [but with his valour, he saved] the lives of many more people.” The letter further reads, ‘‘This security guard needs to be acknowledged at the highest forum and his name should be recommended for a national gallantry award, one of his sons should be provided a job and a sufficient compensation be paid to his family.”

Meanwhile, Durrani visited the residence of Pervez at Gujrat Bakhshali, Mardan where he offered condolences to the bereaved family. He prayed for the departed soul and his family. The IGP also visited District Headquarters Hospital Mardan where he enquired after the health of the injured persons of the suicide blast. DIG Mardan Saeed Wazir and DPO Mardan Shehzad Faisal also accompanied the IGP on this occasion.
