PESHAWAR:

Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights Minister Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi has said low levels of literacy and awareness among the public have resulted in the violation of human rights. Efforts must be made to curb such practices in the province.

He was quoted in a handout issued on Tuesday. The minister was speaking at a foundation stone-laying ceremony of the new building of the human rights department in Hayatabad. Anti-Corruption Director General Ziaullah Toru, Human Rights Director Noor Zaman Khattak and others were also present on the occasion.

Shahid said concrete efforts were needed to monitor the violations of human rights. He added the government expected the department officials to perform better and work with zeal to bring a real change in K-P. Later, the minister visited the office of the anti-corruption establishment where Toru briefed him about the steps being taken by the human rights department to facilitate the masses.
