Water shortage in Gwadar

Letter December 28, 2015
The water shortage has compelled the inhabitants of Gwadar to buy water at high rates from far-flung areas

TURBAT: While the people of Gwadar are blessed with natural resources, they are in trouble due to a shortage of water. There are also reports of water theft due to which people are locking up their water tanks with steel locks.

The Ankara Dam is the only source of water to the citizens of the area, but a lack of rain has caused problems in ensuring a ready supply. The water shortage has compelled the inhabitants of Gwadar to buy water at high rates from far-flung areas. Water tankers are priced between Rs10, 000 and Rs15,000, which is not feasible for most poor families. I request to the government to establish water filter plants and solve the water problem permanently.
