MULTAN:

A fight broke out among workers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz at a ceremony organised to celebrate the birthdays of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the residence of MPA Sultana Shaheen on Friday.

There were two cakes at the ceremony. Nearly 3,000 workers attended the function. Some senior party workers objected to the size of the cake dedicated to Mr Jinnah. They said the cake was “simple, cheap and weighed only two-pounds.”

They said the cake for the prime minister had been decorated and weighed 100 pounds. They said celebration of Jinnah’s birthday anniversary deserved more attention to detail.  Tariq Bhutta, a senior PML-N worker, said, “We owe our lives to Jinnah. What are these organisers showing to the new generation? Such attitude should be condemned,” he said.

Hamza Rafiq, another member of the party, said the objections were pointless.  “As prime minister, Nawaz Sharif always stood for the country. He, too, deserves respect,” he said.  A fist fight followed a heated exchange. The organisers took cover as several workers fought over the cake.

MPA Sultana Shaheed declined comment.
