PML-N’s Sanaullah Zehri elected Balochistan chief minister

Ruling party's nomination of Zehri as Balochistan CM is in accordance with tripartite Murree agreement

QUETTA: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president in Balochistan Nawab Sanaullah Zehri was on Thursday elected unopposed as the 22nd chief minister of the province.

According to sources, no candidate submitted nomination papers for the post of chief minister which led to the unopposed election of Zehri as Balochistan chief minister.



On Wednesday, a statement released by the Balochistan Assembly Secretariat had revealed the chief minister and speaker of the house would be elected during the assembly proceedings on December 24.

Dr Abdul Malik relinquished the post of Balochistan chief minister on Wednesday, following a meeting with Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai at the Governor House. The governor accepted the resignation.

After completing half of his tenure, Malik had paved the way for Zehri, the ruling party’s Balochistan president, whom Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had nominated as the next CM earlier this month in accordance with the tripartite Murree agreement.



The ruling PML-N, the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) and the National Party had signed the power-sharing deal in Murree on June 4, 2013.

Zehri's election as chief minister comes in wake of the election of Rahila Hameed Durrani as Balochistan's first-ever female speaker of the provincial assembly. Durrani belongs to the ruling Pakistan PML-N which leads the provincial government along with PkMAP and National Party.
