A writ petition was filed on Friday over the failure to implement Sehat Ka Insaf, a health programme under which the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government pledged to provide free treatment and medicines to patients. The petition was filed by Muhammad Waqas through his lawyer Aminur Rahman. As per the petition, the provincial government had announced that it would provide free treatment, medicines, medical tests and X-ray facilities to the patients. According to the petitioner, the K-P government failed to approve a budget for the provision of medicines to make the programme operational. He complained that a “doctors mafia” deliberately destroyed machinery in public sector hospitals, forcing the patients to conduct tests at private laboratories. After hearing the petition, the court stayed the nomination of the acting president.
