In pursuance of clause 16 of the university’s first statutes of 1978, the two members of the senate have been elected unopposed as members of the syndicate of the university in accordance with the university act 1977, the notification reads.
Since May 2015 the elections have been postponed twice, revealed NED electronic engineering chairperson Professor Dr Syed Muhammad Usman Ali, who has been elected unopposed along with dean of faculty of chemical and process engineering, Professor Dr Muhammad Tufail. Initially, the senate elections were to be held in May 2015, but later were postponed to November 11, Dr Ali told The Express Tribune. While a new notification was issued for the submission of the nomination papers, he added.
Beating the odds: University students lend a helping hand
Only two professors filed nomination papers for the two seats, said NED University’s registrar, Ghazanfar Hussain. He also said that elections are held for the selection of the members.
“Since we neither received a third nomination for the seat nor any candidate withdrew from the elections, this resulted in the members being elected unopposed for three years.”
