“Nowadays everybody is fit, but when I joined the industry, it was rare to see actresses who were into working out. At that time, they wanted you to be a bit ‘hari bhari’ (fuller), and they used to say, ‘What is this? You are looking so lean like a toothpick,’” said Shilpa. “So I’ve had producers who wanted me to put on weight.”
Shilpa was prompted by a question regarding the weight loss of actor Parineeti Chopra and she was quite happy about her transformation. The actor is of the opinion that we exist in a time where people are aware about the importance of fitness and there are so many ways of achieving that. “It’s very important to bring awareness to the fact that whether you have time for any kind of fitness regime or not, you can still improve your health with a good diet,” added Shilpa.

Having launched her book The Great Indian Diet, she believes it’s wise to manage stress well.
“It’s all about perspective when it comes to stress. There are some people who stress about not having stress. My life’s mantra has been that the worst things and the best things, both are going to pass and that’s how life is going to be. So you have to be who you are with a positive approach, and gratitude that you have good health.”
