Dissent: PPP leaders hit out at Chaudhry Nisar

PPP condemns allegations by Chaudry Nisar that Sindh government is undermining the Rangers operation in Karachi

PESHAWAR: Pakistan People Party Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s cabinet has condemned Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan’s allegations that the Sindh government is undermining the Rangers operation in Karachi.



This was said during a meeting held at the residence of Peoples Lawyers Forum President Akbar Khan. The moot was attended by PPP provincial president Khanzada Khan, PPP K-P Information Secretary Liaqat Shabab, PPP K-P Finance Secretary Farzand Ali Khan, Advocate Jamal Khattak, besides others.

“The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leadership is against democracy,” Khanzada said. “Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif must take strict notice of anti-democratic statements made by his interior minister.”

The party passed a unanimous resolution and strongly condemned Nisar’s statements. He asked the prime minister to take notice of the remarks and conduct a thorough investigation.

Speaking at a news conference in Islamabad on Saturday, Nisar had accused the PPP-led Sindh government of not extending adequate powers to Rangers. He claimed this was an attempt to thwart the Karachi operation “to save just one man [from being caught]”.

He was alluding to Dr Asim Hussain, a former PPP leader facing charges of corruption and abetting terrorists. The interior minister said the government will not allow any attempts to undermine the ongoing operation in Karachi or the sacrifices of Rangers.

He said a delay in extending powers to Rangers will encourage criminal activities. Nisar vowed to present concrete evidence if the Sindh government does not change its attitude. The Sindh government, however, responded saying it will present extension of Rangers’ powers at the assembly where it will be passed.

Internal affairs

During the cabinet meeting, PPP leader also discussed a number of matters related to the party. This involved the completion of the party’s structure in Upper Dir and Lower Dir.

Party leaders decided to set up a committee under the leadership of Shabab, Akbar and Khattak to strengthen the party’s structure in these regions. Another committee was also constituted to strengthen the party’s structure and women’s wing in Bannu district.
