Karachi’s infrastructure

Letter December 15, 2015
Karachi cannot develop into a modern city without required infrastructure

KARACHI: Karachi is a metropolitan city also known as the city of lights. It is Pakistan’s hub of trade and economic activity and is also home to the country’s largest companies involved in shipping, textiles, automotive industry, entertainment, fashion, advertising, software development and medical research. Karachi contributes 50 per cent of exports, 65 per cent revenue and also provides employment to people from all over the country.

The city is expanding without any planning. Key facilities like water supply, drainage, housing, roads, railway, public transport, education, etc are badly neglected. With the increasing volume of vehicles, the city is experiencing frequent traffic jams and increasing environmental pollution.

The government should appoint a commission and provide funds for the improvement of the city. Karachi cannot develop into a modern city without required infrastructure. Special focus should be on Karachi because the economy of the country considerably depends on it.
