BANNU:

The displaced population from North Waziristan Agency took to the streets of Bannu on Saturday over the government’s hostile attitude regarding their repatriation.

A large number of internally displaced persons (IDP) marched towards Bannu Press Club and shouted slogans against the government.

They urged the authorities to take notice of the deplorable situation faced by IDPs.

According to protesters, the government has repeatedly ignore that many areas of North Waziristan have been cleared of militants. “However, there are many IDPs who have not been repatriated,” a protester said. “The process is moving at snail’s pace which is a cause of concern.”

Delays in the process of repatriation have negatively impacted the education of 83,000 students. Many IDP camps lack basic facilities and are facing water shortages. Some of them have also complained of being manhandled and insulted by the police.
