Latif Khosa likely to be appointed governor of Punjab: Soomro

Advisor to president says notification will be issued by tomorrow.

President Asif Ali Zardari is likely to appoint Former Attorney General Sardar Latif Khosa as the new Punjab governor, according to Advisor to the President Qayyum Soomro.

Soomro informed Express News that the notification is expected to be issued by tomorrow (Sunday). Soomro said that the decision was made after considering various names for the vacant post.

Meanwhile, Latif Khosa said that the president has invited him in Karachi tomorrow. He said that the matter will be clearer by this evening.

The position of Governor of Punjab has been vacant since the assassination of Salmaan Taseer on Tuesday when he was shot by one of his own guards, Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qari, in an upmarket neighbourhood of Islamabad.

According to Article 101 of the Constitution, the president nominates the governor who stays in office until the president notifies otherwise. If, due to absence from the country or for any other cause, the governor is unable to perform his duties, the speaker of the province or any nominee of the president, shall perform the functions until the governor returns.
