Representatives of several industrial units have committed to open employment opportunities to people with disabilities to enable them to live a respectable life in society.

They made the commitment at a forum titled “Promoting Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities”, organised by the LC Disability and Development Programme, a rights-based cross–disability focused organisation, in collaboration with Sightsavers International in connection with Human Rights Day here at a local hotel.

The programme aimed at sensitising stakeholders on abilities, rights and issues of those with disabilities, to improve their access to employment opportunities, trainings, apprenticeships and internships.

According to figures shared at the programme, around 11,000 people with disabilities were registered with the organisation; of them around 4,000 have been given various skill trainings while over 3,000 disabled persons have so far been placed in different industrial units and originations across Pakistan. Representatives of employers shared their working experience with diversified workforces, including people with disabilities, to promote equal employment opportunities.
