Jhelum rioting: 21 suspects sent on judicial remand

An anti-terrorism court has sent 16 suspects on judicial remand till December 21 after their physical remand expired on Friday, for rioting and torching a factory in Jhelum. A mob had blocked the GT Road and set fire to a chip board factory in Jhelum on November 20 after a factory staffer was accused by another staffer of burning pages of the Holy Quran. The court also issued non-bailable arrest warrants for another 123 suspects and directed the police to arrest them. A total of 69 suspects have been arrested and sent on judicial remand so far. Of them, 50 have filed bail applications. Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court on Monday awarded 6-month imprisonment and Rs 15,000 fine to a drug smuggler.
