The Pakistan Super League (PSL) governing council has added the likes of South Africa’s ‘White Lightening’ Allan Donald and Australia’s double World Cup winners Tom Moody and Michael Bevan in the final list of head coaches but their names are yet to be announced officially.

PSL officials had released the majority of the big names in the coaching roster, but for some reason had held back the names of the high-profile trio.

Donald was one of the world’s fastest bowlers during his playing days and has been involved in several important international assignments in a coaching capacity.

Moody — a handy all-rounder as a player and a coach who has worked in Sri Lanka, England, Australia and India — is in the list as well. The 50-year-old recently coached Indian Premier League franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Bevan — one of the best one-day finishers of all time — is in the list as well.

Pakistan head coach Waqar Younis and spin bowling assistant Mushtaq Ahmed are also included in the list of head coaches, despite both being involved with the national side.

Former Pakistan skipper, team manager and chief selector Moin Khan is in the head coach category too after the PSL governing council invited applications from interested former cricketers.

The big names in the assistants list include South African Lance Klusener, who took the cricketing world by storm during the 1999 World Cup, and West Indies great Desmond Haynes, one of the game’s most prolific run-scorers in both Tests and ODIs.

Despite boasting impressive CVs and coaching records, former Pakistani teammates Saqlain Mushtaq and Aqib Javed have been kept in the ‘assistants’ category rather than be made head coaches.

Australian batsman Brad Hodge is in the list of assistant coaches while also being in the PSL players’ draft as well.

Other categories in the support staff include trainers, physiotherapists, training assistants and analysts.

Payment structure for officials

All five franchises have been asked to hire the full support staff of one head coach, two assistants, and one trainer, physio, analyst and junior trainer apiece. The teams cannot exceed a budget of $175,000 for the entire backroom staff.

The range for the head coach has been assigned as $45,000 to $60,000, while for assistant coaches it stands at $25,000 to $40,000.

Trainers should be hired for between $5,000 and $15,000, while physios can be paid between $8,000 and $12,000.

The lowest paid members of the support staff will be junior trainers, who can get between $1,000 and $2,000, while analysts can receive somewhere between $5,000 and $8,000.
