Devolve it right: MQM tables resolution on LG powers

Muttahida Qaumi Movement lawmakers tabled a joint resolution in the Sindh Assembly on Thursday, demanding financial and administrative powers for the local government. The resolution that was submitted in the assembly secretariat and may be taken up today, states: "Since the local government elections have been held on December 5 in the province, it is hereby resolved that government devolve political administrative authority and financial responsibilities and authority to the elected representatives of the local government under Article 140-A of the Constitution in letter and spirit, without any loss of time." Opposition leader Khawaja Izharul Hasan, of the MQM, said they would take up the issue in the current session to adopt the resolution.
