The president’s visit to the city was unannounced and he went directly to Taseer’s private residence. He offered his condolences to Taseer’s widow, Amna, and his family, stating that Taseer led a brave, undaunted political life and embraced martyrdom following the tradition set by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir.
President Zardari eulogised the courage and determination of Taseer in espousing the cause of marginalised sections of society, adding that his readiness to pay the highest price for it would continue to inspire many in the future.
“The supreme sacrifice rendered by Salman Taseer will not go in vain,” the President said.
Underscoring Taseer’s contribution towards fighting against extremism and fanaticism in the country, the president said that PPP workers and democratic forces were proud of Salmaan Taseer’s sacrifice.
“He always called a spade a spade and did not mince words in expressing what he had believed to be true and right,” Zardari added.
