The Bollywood actor's verdict has left many questioning India's judiciary system

Bollywood megastar Salman Khan has been acquitted of all charges levied against him in the 2002 hit-and-run case, Bombay High Court ruled on Thursday.

The court while announcing the verdict said the actor cannot be convicted on the basis of evidence submitted by the prosecution, Times of India reported.

The actor was accused of drunk driving and losing control of his SUV, killing two people, after a night of drinking at an upscale bar in Mumbai in 2002 and fleeing the scene.

Salman Khan sentenced to five years in prison in hit-and-run case

After years of court hearings and legal hold-ups, the verdict decided the 49-year-old actor’s fate regarding charges of culpable homicide.

With eight charges against against him, including culpable homicide and a non-bailable offence, a Mumbai sessions court earlier deemed him guilty and has sentenced him to five years in prison.
