Lahore Blues’ bowler claims 10 Hyderabad wickets across both innings

KARACHI: A brilliant performance by Lahore Blues’ bowlers and a 192-run knock by Waqas Saleem allowed the visitors to defeat hosts Hyderabad by an innings and 184 runs in their seventh-round fixture of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Lahore Blues, who were in their first innings, resumed the day 322-6 and added 102 runs before declaring on 424-9 as Saleem , who had resumed the day on 185, was dismissed for 192, while Farhan Khan (60) also contributed significantly.

Trailing by 303 runs, Hyderabad were unable to tame Lahore Blues’ bowlers and bundled out for just 118 runs as Aizaz Cheema, who had taken six wickets in the first innings, dismissed four batsmen, while Ahmed Bashir, who had dismissed three batsmen in the first innings, took another three wickets. Haris Khan (35) and Shoaib Laghari (23) top-scored for the hosts.

Meanwhile, Quaid-e-Azam Trophy’s leading wicket-taker, Mohammad Abbas, continued to impress with the ball as he dismissed seven NBP batsmen in the second innings to guide KRL to an eight-wicket win at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.

NBP had resumed the day at 84-6 and managed to reach 167 to give a target of 130 which KRL managed to make in 28.4 overs as Zain Abbas scored an unbeaten 58 off 50 balls, while Shoaib Ahmed contributed with a 51-ball 37. NBP’s Akbarur Rehman and Ahmed Jamal took one wicket each.

At the National Stadium in Karachi, Fata, who were asked to follow on, fought back to wrest control of the match from hosts Karachi Whites and after being dismissed on 141 in the first innings, managed to make 478 in the second and give a strong 320-run target to the hosts. Karachi Whites were 34-0 at the end of play.

In other matches, HBL were 68-4 at stumps, chasing a target of 366 set by Wapda at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, while Lahore Whites were 7-0 in their second innings, leading by 25 runs, after dismissing Rawalpindi on 183 on the third day at the LCCA Ground in Lahore.
