Extortionists are, slowly but steadily, strengthening their grip on the provincial metropolis with the latest incident reported from Warsak
Road, Mathra.
Complainant Noorhad Gul, a resident of Babu Garhi, lodged an FIR with Mathra police station, stating he was constantly receiving calls from Afghanistan in which militants were demanding Rs60 million in extortion. “They are demanding Rs20 million from me and Rs20 million each from my brother Shiraz and my nephew Imdadullah,” he said.

Gul told police in his absence, his house was also attacked with a hand grenade. “No one was in the house at the time of the attack and when we returned, we found it damaged,” he added.
Police registered an FIR and started investigation.
On the other hand, Amjad, whose house was attacked in Mohalla Bajuri Khord, Sarki Gate a day earlier, told the police his father’s house in Gulbahar was also attacked by unidentified miscreants.

“Amjad told us miscreants were demanding Rs100 million in extortion and this was not the first attack of its kind,” a police official told The Express Tribune. “His house was attacked last year and his father’s house was attacked a few days ago,” he added.
The official also said terrorist groups involved in extortion had staged a comeback in the city, which was really worrying for them.
