Two years later: Islamia college starts centennial celebrations

Centennial celebrations of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s historic educational institution, Islamia College University, Peshawar (ICUP), commenced on Monday and will continue till December 13.

ICUP, established in 1913, completed its 100 years in 2013. However, the celebrations could not take place as Vice Chancellor Ajmal Khan, who had been kidnapped by a banned militant group in 2009, had still been missing. He was recovered in September 2014.

According to a press release issued by the university on Monday, various events have already taken place.

Talking to The Express Tribune, ICUP Media and Protocol Officer Ali Hoti said the university has been holding musical events for the last two weeks, in which its alumni, some from the year 1950, were also invited. He said the first vice chancellor cricket tournament was also under way, in which eight universities and colleges are participating. “An exhibition of flowers, titled ‘Guli Daodi,’ also commenced on Monday, in which every kind of flower was on display,” Hoti added. A convocation ceremony will be held on December 13.
