Pakistan on Friday was re-elected to the executive council of the Organisation for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
In a statement from the Foreign Office spokesperson, Ambassador Moazzam Ahmad Khan had represented Pakistan at the 20th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (CWC) at The Hague from November 30 to December 4.
Khan had expressed Pakistan’s commitment to objectives and purposes of the convention and the firm resolve to work with the international community for ensuring a world free of chemical weapons.
Being one of the first countries to accede to the convention, the spokesperson said Pakistan has always played an active role in the OPCW.
Pakistan, which also serves as the coordinator for the Asia Group in the OPCW executive council, was unanimously re-elected for a two-year term from 2016 to 2018.
