The suspect, Abdullah Misri, introduced himself as a sub-inspector and a gunman of Hyderabad DIG Khadim Hussain Rind. Jamshoro SSP Captain (retd) Tariq Wilayat told The Express Tribune that they have traced at least 15 persons so far from whom he swindled thousands of rupees by assuring them of appointments in the police. "Misri gave buckle numbers to at least 10 of them and offer letters to two others," he said. "But he couldn't manage to get any of them to formally join the police."
The suspect asked each of his dupes to pay him Rs500,000 for the jobs of constable after they get the appointment. Acting audaciously, the trickster went to the CIA Centre, Jamshoro, along with one of his prey to impress upon him that he will soon be joining the job at the centre.
"When he was questioned [by policemen at the centre about the purpose of his visit], he tried to browbeat them by asking their names, telling them that he is a gunman of the DIG," the SSP told. Wilayat said he was immediately informed about the situation and he directed the police to take Misri into custody until he checked with the DIG.
Minutes later, he was arrested for being an imposter. "During initial investigations, we have found that he belongs to Tando Allahyar district, where he cheated many people by acting either as a lawyer or a policeman."
The police recovered fake offer letters, police uniform and fake identity card of a sub-inspector in a raid at his residence in Kotri town. Misri will be booked in the case of impersonation and forgery. The police are also consulting their legal experts to insert more punitive sections in the FIR.
