Insiders told The Express Tribune the decision was taken because village and neighbourhood council nazims had been ignored by the Etihad group which was formed earlier this month.
Babar Khan, the leader of the pressure group, told The Express Tribune over the telephone a majority of village and neighbourhood council nazims were disappointed with the Etihad group because it had neglected their needs.
However, Sikandari Kurona Waris Khan, a member of the Etihad group, said tehsil naib nazim Mardan Mushtaq Seemab had assured them that he would resolve their grievances.
“Etihad group had been established by the district government and claimed district nazims supported this group,” he added.
Another group member, requesting anonymity, said they had received a summary of the provincial government which shows glaring discrepancies in allocation of funds.
“As per the summary, village and neighborhood councils will receive Rs20,000 as salary, Rs5,000 as fuel cost and Rs5,000 as telephone expenses,” he said. “On the other hand, council naib nazim will receive Rs15,000 as salary, Rs3,000 as fuel cost and Rs3,000 as telephone expenses.”
