Here is an overview of the latest developments in Israel's ongoing military campaign against Gaza, which has led to the loss of more than 36,000 Palestinian lives.
UNICEF finds 90% of Gazan children lack food needed for proper growth
UNICEF said on Thursday that nine out of 10 children in Gaza could not eat nutrients from enough food groups to ensure their healthy growth and development.
"In the Gaza Strip, months of hostilities and restrictions on humanitarian aid have collapsed the food and health systems, resulting in catastrophic consequences for children and their families," UNICEF said.
It said that five sets of data collected between December 2023 and April 2024 had found that 9 out of 10 children in the Gaza Strip, which has been pounded by an Israeli offensive since last October, are suffering from severe food poverty, meaning that they are surviving on two or fewer food groups per day.
"This is evidence of the horrific impact the conflict and restrictions are having on families' ability to meet children's food needs – and the speed at which it places children at risk of life-threatening malnutrition," UNICEF said.
Yemen's Houthis release footage of missiles they say targeted 'military site' in Israel
Yemen's Houthis have released footage of a missile launch that they say targeted 'military site' in Israel's port city Eilat.
The footage showed views of what the Houthis said was “the launch of a new type of ballistic missile called 'Palestine' unveiled for the first time.”
They said the missile targeted “a military site of the Israeli enemy in Umm al-Rashrash (Eilat) in the south of occupied Palestine,” on June 3, 2024.
Spain to intervene in South Africa's Gaza genocide case at World Court
Spain will request to intervene in South Africa's genocide case against Israel's actions in Gaza at the International Court of Justice, its foreign minister Jose Manuel Albares said.
Spain follows Ireland, which also announced it would intervene in the case.
"We are doing it because of our commitment to international law, in our desire to support the court in its work and strengthen the United Nations, supporting the role of the court as the maximum legal entity in the system," Albares said in a press conference held in Madrid.
Palestinians mourn their dead following Israeli strike on school in Gaza’s Nuseirat
Palestinians gathered at Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Gaza’s Deir Al Balah to mourn their dead, following an Israeli strike on a UN school, which killed several people.
Israel targeted the Gaza school earlier today claiming without any evidence that it contained a Hamas compound, killing fighters involved in the October 7 attack. Local authorities in Gaza said the Israeli strike killed at least 39 people seeking shelter.
Israel intensifies onslaught on Gaza
Israel has intensified its ongoing assault on Gaza with its latest airstrike on Rafah neighbourhood claiming dozes of Palestinian lives.
Israel had launched its offensive on Gaza after the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack that resulted in the deaths of 1,200 Israelis.
Around 36,600 Palestinians have been killed by Israel since then, the vast majority being women and children.
More than 83,000 others have been left injured while 85 percent of Gaza’s 2.3 million population has been left displaced.
Nearly eight months into the Israeli war, vast swathes of Gaza lay in ruins amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water, and medicine.
The ongoing Israeli onslaught has continued despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire.
Israel is also facing genocide accusations at the International Court of Justice.
