KARACHI: With reference to the assassination of Salmaan Taseer, is not incitement to murder — and that too publicly declared, witnessed and executed — a capital crime? Why has the law of Pakistan not acted against the persons responsible with the same alacrity that it showed in the recent blasphemy case regarding Aasia Bibi?
What has happened in Islamabad is a chillingly significant manifestation of the abdication of the law, and of the government and civil society shirking their prime responsibilities.
The law must answer; if yes, then due punishment must be given to all the perpetrators. If no, let us pack up our courts and government and rapidly regress, as we seemingly are, to the anarchic law of the mob.
