In addition to de-weaponising civilians, there is a great need to purge the police of corrupt and incompetent elements
KARACHI: The incidents of terrorism, targeted killing, kidnapping for ransom, bank robbery and street crime cannot be eradicated until an operation to de-weaponise our society is launched on a large scale. In addition to de-weaponising civilians and criminals, there is a great need to purge the police of corrupt and incompetent elements who have had strong links with criminals for the sake of personal gains.
Moreover, the police system should be de-politicised in all respects and should not be used or misused by the ruling elite for their personal interests. The federal government is requested to chalk out a strategy on these lines to clear the mess that has been created due to rampant crime.
