Merit-based posts in K-P

Letter November 13, 2015
Merit list should be prepared on the basis of the NTS test results and marks obtained should be set as the benchmark

NOWSHERA: The chief minister of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) has been misguided by his subordinates on the issue of the recruitment of secretary of village council/neighbour council. Some officers in five districts of the province were involved in violating rules and made the entire recruitment process doubtful. This matter needed a clear inquiry so that the culprits could have been taken to task. Instead, the chief minister ordered that the posts be re-advertised instead of launching an inquiry into the botched recruitment process.

On the one hand, PTI Chairman Imran Khan condemns the federal government on its polices. On the other hand, his party is demolishing merit, playing with the future of poor people and denying them their rights. The NTS test for the post of the secretary of the village council was held in the month of Ramazan and about 15,000 candidates sat for it in extremely hot weather. It is suggested that the merit list be prepared on the basis of the results of this test, and the marks obtained in it along with past academic achievements should be set as the benchmark. Re-advertising these posts is a waste of time and money. It will also make the new local government activities at the village council level suffer.
