Minority languages (III)

Letter January 03, 2011
I would like to talk about a language of Hunza (Brushaski) which recently received considerable recognition.

ISLAMABAD: With reference to Zubair Torwali’s article on the importance of minority languages in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, I would like to talk about a language of Hunza by the name of Brushaski which, in recent years, has received considerable recognition. A local intellectual, Allama Nasir, or ‘Baba Brushaski’ as he is called, has done a lot in this regard. He is co-author of a German-Burushaski dictionary published by the University of Heidelberg and one on Hunza proverbs published by the University of Calgary in Canada.

I believe a similar effort by people who speak minority languages in the region mentioned by the writer could make a considerable difference in improving their status.
