What needs to be done in Afghanistan (II)

Letter January 01, 2011
The problem with political figures such as Musharraf is that they lose all objectivity during analysis.

LONDON: With reference to Ejaz Haider’s articles, the narrative perpetuated by Musharraf and TV experts is simple, easily repeated and reinforced. The nuances and subtle details which are relevant to understanding the past, present and future policy falls victim to too much detail. The problem with political figures such as Musharraf, acting as part-time foreign policy pundits, is that they lose all objectivity during analysis. Die-hard Musharraf supporters will agree with whatever he says; while critics, who would pull the rug from under his narrative, are viewed as either pro-PPP, conspirators or individuals who don’t believe in ‘Pakistan first’.
