K-Electric’s efforts

Letter October 22, 2015
K-Electric has not increased or deliberately changed power curtailing schedule in any area of Karachi

KARACHI: This is with reference to the letter by Mohsin Ali Turabi (October 14). K-Electric is maintaining a regular power cut schedule across Karachi. No increase or deliberate change has been made in this schedule in any area. There is no concept of the “bijli gangster” in any part of the city, who controls the electricity supply, as mentioned in the letter. It is further clarified that K-Electric discourages the system of kundas (illegal connections), which not only cause a loss to the company, but have also been a major cause for electrocution incidents.

Referring to the letter, the Qalandarabad PMT located in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 10 is heavily infested with kundas. Due to the excessive burden of illegal connections, the PMT becomes faulty every other day. The respective defaulters owe Rs0.49 million. K-Electric’s staff have already tried, several times, to remove these kundas; however, all efforts have been in vain due to the resistance of some of the residents of the area. However, the K-Electric’s office concerned will again arrange an operation against power theft and illegal kundas in the area to encourage the use of metered connections.
