Ambassador’s note on Ankara explosions

Letter October 22, 2015
In spite of terrorism, Turkey held free and fair elections, implemented reforms and achieved economic progress

ISLAMABAD: The editorial and articles published by The Express Tribune following the terrorist attack in Ankara on October 10, that so far has taken 97 precious lives, have been disappointing due to negligence of facts, if not outright prejudice, on their part. Turkey has faced the challenge of terrorism for over three decades and lost over 40,000 citizens. This did not prevent Turkey from holding free and fair elections, implementing reforms and achieving impressive economic progress. Turkey will again hold elections on November 1, where the people of the country will decide their own future, whatever prejudiced pens may write.

What a pity it is that a newspaper published in Pakistan, a brotherly country that has suffered equally from terrorism, would attempt to whitewash terrorists, whether they be in Turkey or in Pakistan.

Sadik Babur Girgin

Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan
