Breast cancer awareness

Letter October 12, 2015
Govts and the WHO must devise a plan to save more women by spreading awareness about early detection and prevention

TURBAT: Breast cancer kills nearly 40,000 women in Pakistan every year. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the incidence of breast cancer is increasing in the country. According to one report, breast cancer accounts for approximately 16 per cent of all female cancers, 22.9 per cent of invasive cancers in women and 18.2 per cent of all cancer deaths worldwide, of both males and females.

There are multiple factors associated with late detection of the disease but the responsibility lies with governments and the WHO to take a serious glance at this dangerous disease and devise a plan to save more women by spreading awareness about early detection and prevention. The government of Pakistan must take concrete steps to control the spread of the disease and increase awareness about it at the national level.
