No end to political drama

Letter December 29, 2010
The maulana's asking for such a change reeks of ulterior motives.

KARACHI: This is with reference to the MQM leaving the federal cabinet and the recent statement by JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman that a new prime minister be elected by the PPP. The question that immediately comes to mind is: why is the maulana asking for such a change when his party has parted ways with the government? This just reeks of ulterior motives.

Furthermore, if one analyses the behaviour of the MQM, one will find something odd: instead of trying to mend fences with the PML-N, since it is the largest party in the opposition in the National Assembly, the party has issued statements against it. And after all this, the MQM also does not blame Zulfiqar Mirza although, initially, it was clearly angry with his statement regarding their party. For his part, the Sindh home minister did offer to resign, something that would have further destablised the Sindh government.

One has to wonder what is the end-game for the current drama that is happening and who all is behind it.
