Skill training at the time of schooling and retirement can help reduce vulnerability risks for the already vulnerable
LAHORE: This is apropos Syed Mohammad Ali’s article “Vulnerability risks for the already vulnerable” (September 25). He has rightly spotted the issue and suggested targeted operations. I would prefer using the term ‘operation’ instead of ‘intervention’. However, I am of the view that he should have delved further into details regarding these operations.
One panacea I can suggest in order to reduce vulnerability risks for the already vulnerable is skill training — at the time of schooling and at the time of retirement. The big chunk of dropouts after primary, middle and matric levels should not be allowed to go astray and become criminals on the streets. We can easily and in more fruitful ways polish them to be very productive citizens of society. For example, an organisation in Germany sends senior or retired citizens to developing countries for training needs. They are very productive — not only do they spend their lives usefully, they also act as ambassadors of their country. We can replicate this model and all national and international organisations can facilitate such endeavours to eradicate ‘vulnerability risks for the already vulnerable’.
