Admission impossible

Letter September 28, 2015
I request the authorities concerned to take immediate steps for the regulation of fees of universities

RAWALPINDI: I am writing to express my concern about the exorbitant fees charged by universities, making it impossible for students belonging to the middle class to be enrolled in these institutions to pursue higher education.

I am an MPhil student at Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad where I got admission last year. The lump sum that I paid at the time of admission was Rs52,650. This year, my younger sister was admitted to the same university for the same courses and the exact same degree as mine, but her total fee is rounding up to Rs92,250. This is sheer injustice and only adds to my parents’ woes. They have already suffered because of rapid inflation that has been prevalent in the country for a few years now. I request the authorities concerned to take immediate steps for the regulation of fee, of at least, public sector universities because these are the only ones that the middle class of Pakistan have access to.
