Ramiz Raja’s stance

Letter September 12, 2015
Raja should raise the question of why Akram has been appointed as an ambassador for the PSL

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially signed former captains Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja as ambassadors for the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Some time ago, Raja, who is a seasoned television commentator, wrote an article where he stated that Pakistan should not welcome back Mohammad Amir into international cricket as he cheated his team and Pakistan cricket.

In the light of his own opinion, Raja should then also raise the question of why Akram has been appointed as an ambassador for the PSL. Considering that the Qayyum report into match-fixing that came out in 2000 found Akram to have acted suspiciously, fined him, and asked the PCB not to appoint him to any official position, maybe Raja should be following his own advice here. I am not in favour of Amir playing for Pakistan nor am I against it. But, whatever decision is taken for him, the PCB must act justly with reference to all the players involved in the spot-fixing scandal. Raja should apply his principles on all and not just selected individuals. If he is unable to do this he should stop giving the kind of statements he gave about Amir.
