Reluctance of parents to give polio drops to their children has resulted in children contracting the crippling disease
TURBAT: According to a news report, a new case of polio has been detected in Quetta. This is the fifth case reported in Balochistan, with around 30 cases in total so far in Pakistan this year. The reluctance of parents to give polio drops to their children has inevitably resulted in children contracting the crippling disease.
Many parents have believed the myths spread by extremists that the vaccine causes infertility. It is high time the government took remedial actions to create awareness among the people about the efficacy of the polio vaccine. Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries in the world that have failed to eliminate polio; even extremist-ridden Nigeria has successfully reported zero cases in over a year.
