A resource for child rights

Letter August 28, 2015
Child Rights Movement has sent a letter with recommendations to president of Pakistan and awaits a positive response

ISLAMABAD: The article “Now or Never” by Arshad Mahmood (August 25) is very comprehensive and well-articulated. We, as a society, witness a series of heinous crimes taking place against children in the country. Almost all of us read about the issue, mourn for a week or so and then carry on with our daily lives. In such a situation, amid all the views and opinions expressed by different experts on the issue of child protection, Mr Mahmood’s piece was not just an article, but actually a valuable resource that highlights almost all the major flaws in our policies and laws, which very often contribute towards the failure of the state to function responsibly.

Besides holding aggressive protests and chanting slogans, there is always an erudite way to deal with the issues — by adopting a sustainable approach. In other words, identifying issues and gaps, and sharing these with the relevant authorities and asking them to take relevant steps to overcome the issue. In this regard, the Child Rights Movement has sent a letter with recommendations to the president of Pakistan and awaits a positive response.
