Regrettably, our public-sector employees are infamous for their typical lethargic attitude
ISLAMABAD: Why do public-sector organisations at both the federal and provincial levels perform poorly in Pakistan? This question was asked by a diplomat at a recent reception in Islamabad at a five-star hotel and has been rattling my mind ever since.
Regrettably, our public-sector employees are infamous for their typical lethargic attitude. This lethargy breeds despondency and corruption in government servants and causes delays in the disposal of important files and cases. The lethargy in rescue, relief and rehabilitation-related federal and provincial organisations has become obvious in the rain-and flood-devastated areas of the country. Nowadays, many public-sector organisations, where the (re)tired lot is rehired, sink into extraordinary lethargy and administrative corruption, but who cares in this country, where the ignoble are termed noble and indignity is considered dignity?
