These are not real ambassadors but people whom our leaders want to please.
BEIJING: This is with reference to the report in your paper, “Squandering’ taxpayers’ money: Ambassador-at-large undertakes 30 foreign trips in two years” (December 21). The article is very informative, however, I understand these are not real ambassadors but people whom our leaders want to please.
What really amazes me is how someone can be so shameless and travel so extensively on the government’s expense to conduct one’s own business. On a positive side, at least we have the media which is bringing this to public knowledge and I hope it continues to do so.
I also think it is not fair to say all our ambassadors are like this. There were some very capable people running our Foreign Office, unfortunately they are overshadowed by other politicians.
