A plan for Gwadar

Letter August 05, 2015
The only solution available is that the Balochistan government should enhance educational standards

KARACHI: This letter is with reference to the article by Abid Mustikhan as well as the letter, “Balochistan’s Youth” by Bakhtiar Phullan published in this paper on August 3. The views expressed by the writers are not in line with the laissez-faire economy mechanism, which facilitates the availability of the best available human resource at market price. To the investor, the origin of the people he hires holds little to no significance. A capitalist economy cannot grow when a quota system is in place.

Skilled and unskilled labour can be found in all parts of the world. This often changes the demography of regions. Examples include the UAE, Singapore and any other developed country for that matter. The only solution available is that the Balochistan government should enhance educational standards and establish vocational institutions to cater to the needs of gigantic projects. This will help build the confidence of the local youth and make them competitive candidates. This can certainly ensure sustainable progress of the region and its inhabitants.
