The fact remains that a crime was committed against her and relevant investigations need to take place.
KARACHI: This is with reference to your report “Media circus: Rape victim frightened into withdrawing FIR” (December 21).
There are certain people, even in the media, that are blaming this incident on the girl who was raped, saying she was living with a man and that she was not of ‘good character’, and questioning why she was out so late at night. Police officers were saying on TV that the accusation of rape was not fully substantiated, whereas the same channel that that medical reports confirmed the incident included gang rape.
I assume the officer was protecting the culprit and it will not be long before others start blaming the girl as well. Who cares what her character was like or why she was out late at night? The fact remains that a crime was committed against her and relevant investigations need to take place.
We are always talking about being good Muslims but our actions are always the opposite.
