K-Electric failure

Letter July 20, 2015
Electricity shortfall is badly impacting all types of businesses, industries but no relief is being provided to them

KARACHI: Power outages seem to be one of the most pressing problems in Pakistan. Every day, we experience prolonged hours of electricity failures and despite bringing it to the attention of the authorities concerned, no improvement has emerged. In the area of Karachi where I live, after every two hours, there is one hour of power outage.

K-Electric is facing an electricity shortfall within its own system. According to media report, more than 10 power stations are down. The service department of K-Electric lacks a sense of duty and shirks work. It takes hours and sometimes days to remove a fault and restore power supply. The frequent power outages are the cause of a much bigger problem for Pakistan: the decline of industry in the country. The electricity shortfall is badly impacting all types of businesses and industries but no relief is being provided to them. I request the higher authorities to take serious note of this grave issue and take measures to shorten the periods of power failure.
