Iran nuclear deal

Letter July 17, 2015
It is important that concerns of the Arab states are addressed so that the region as a whole can progress and prosper

PESHAWAR: Finally, after a myriad of setbacks, world powers — namely the US, the UK, China, France and Germany — have reached an agreement with Iran. While there are plenty of quarters appreciating this landmark agreement, others are criticising the deal. Fruitful outcomes for Tehran under the deal will include the doubling of oil exports, the lifting of sanctions, and the unfreezing of $100 billion in assets, to name a few.

On the other hand, critics believe that this deal will shift the power equilibrium in the Middle East. Moreover, Iranian rapprochement with the US will be very alarming for Saudi Arabia and other Arab states. It is important that concerns of the Arab states are addressed so that the region as a whole can progress and prosper.
